Hawks Allow Just 2 Hits in Sweep of Wells

AURORA, N.Y. – Hilbert College Softball traveled to Wells College for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader with the Express this afternoon. Dominant pitching for the Hawks in both games contributed to a pair of 7-0 victories.

Kailey Stolowski's 14 strikeout no-hitter shut down the offense of Wells, while Alana Yadov's homerun highlighted the Hilbert offense in game one.

Yadov stepped in the circle in game two and tossed seven scoreless innings while striking out nine batters in the second 7-0 win of the day for the Hawks.

Game 1:

After a scoreless first inning that included three strikeouts from Stolowski, the Hawks got on the board in the first with the game's first runs.

Back-to-back singles from Victoria Hanley and Alana Yadov, and a passed ball gave the Hawks runners on second and third with no outs. A Samantha Heppel sacrifice fly and a Makenna Smith RBI walk after Brooke Feliciano single to load the bases gave Hilbert a 2-0 advantage. Stolowski once again made quick work of the Express in the bottom half of the second, striking out two more batters.

Yadov doubled the lead in the top of the third when her first career homerun brought home Hanley. Stolowski struck out the side in the bottom of the frame to continue her dominance.

Hilbert added another run in the top of the fifth to make it 5-0 after Feliciano's single scored Heppel who was on second base after a double.

An error, and an Emma Gionta RBI single added two more runs to the visitors' side of the scoreboard in the top of the seventh to make it a 7-0 game.

With two outs and a runner of first base in the bottom of the seventh, Feliciano preserved the no-hitter with a heads-up play to get the runner out at second after the ball dropped in front of her in right field.

BY THE NUMBERS:
  • Kailey Stolowski earned her sixth win and second shutout of the season with her hitless outing. The freshman struck out 14 batters in seven innings of work.
  • Yadov's homerun capped off her 2/4, 2 RBI performance at the plate.
  • Heppel went 3/3 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored.

Game 2:

Victoria Hanley opened the scoring in game two with an RBI single that scored Emily Lacki in the top of the first inning.

Alana Yadov struck out five of the first Wells batters to hold the 1-0 lead after two innings.

Hilbert broke the game open in the top of the third with six runs to match game one's final score. The Hawks used three hits and three Express errors to take a 7-0 lead.

Kaitlin Stolowski started the scoring with an RBI double that brought home Makenna Smith. After an error plated two more runs, Mackenzie Catan tripled to bring in Hanley and give the Hawks a 5-0 lead. Another run from an error, and an RBI groundout from Feliciano extended the advantage to 7-0.

Yadov pitched two more hitless innings before allowing the first Wells hit of the day in the bottom of the fifth.  The freshman pitcher allowed just one more hit the rest of the day to complete the shutout and conclude the AMCC sweep.

BY THE NUMBERS:
  • Yadov earned her third win of the season with her nine strikeout, complete game two-hit shutout.
  • Catan recorded her second multi-hit performance of the season going 2/3 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Kaitlin Stolowski, Hanley, Catan, and Feliciano all recorded RBIs in the game.
