Softball Suffers a Pair of Setbacks

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Hilbert College Softball had a tough day on the diamond today dropping a pair of late afternoon games in their third day of competition in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic tournament in South Carolina.

The Hawks, after picking up four straight wins Sunday and Monday, returned to action late this afternoon after having games canceled or postponed due to weather the last two days.

Game One: Kenyon 1 – Hilbert 0
Game Two: Centenary 8 – Hilbert 0, 5 inn

Game One:

Hilbert and Keynon (2-3) played through five scoreless innings until the Owls strung together three consecutive hits at the top of the 6th to score one run.

The Hawks lead-off batter made it to first base three of the seven innings while Kenyon's pitching ace faced four or less batters each time she stepped in the circle.

Victoria Hanley recorded two hits, Emily Lacki was credited with the Hawks' only other hit and Kaitlin Stolowski earned the solo base on balls today.

Kailey Stolowski allowed six hits, one walk and struck out four through seven innings in her first collegiate loss.

Kylie Hamm also went the distance leading the Owls to victory after fanning eight Hawks while allowing three hits.

Game Two:

The Hawks struggled to make contact in the night cap but were able to keep it a two-run game through the fourth inning.  The Cyclones strung together three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, finishing  the game early.

Emma Gionta, Victoria Hanley, Makenna Smith and Mackenzie Catan continued to make contact in the night cap as they all poked a ball to the outfield, but they were stranded by the third out.

The Hawks were running, attempting to make it home as Samantha Heppel, Hanley and Smith each collected a stolen base through five innings.

Yadov suffered her first loss, going the distance while allowing seven hits, five earned runs with four walks and five strikeouts.
