HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Men's Lacrosse opened their 2024 season with an 11-7 loss to first-time opponent, Regis College (MA).
The Hawks battled back and knotted the game early in the fourth quarter, but the Pride scored four unanswered goals to pull away late.
After trailing by four goals early into the second quarter, the Hawks' Matthew Kennedy tallied his first Hilbert career goal at 9:47. Less than three minutes later, Connor Salamida set Jason Sage up with a man-up goal. Each team traded scores before the half, with Joey DiMaria assisting on Aidan Franko's hit with :25 left on the clock that set the 5-3 score after 30 minutes.
Jason Sage pulled Hilbert within one less than 60-seconds into the third period and then Joey DiMaria strung together three consecutive Hilbert scores that tied the game at 7-all with 9:40 left in the fourth quarter. The Pride's Jack Jaynes had a hand in three of the four final Regis goals, leading them to the 11-7 win.
Regis controlled the pace, out shooting the Hawks, forcing more turnovers and gather just a few more ground balls than the Hawks.
Hilbert's junior goalkeeper Griffin Miller was credited with 21 saves. Connor Salamida led with two caused turnovers while Joseph Gorman led with five ground balls.
Joey DiMaria recorded four points off three goals and Jason Sage finished with two scores.

Hilbert returns to St. Francis High School this Saturday, March 9th when they host Thiel College in a 1 pm contest.
