Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Andrew Loveless

Big Days From DiMaria and Kennedy Lead Hawks to First Win of the Season Over SUNY Cobleskill

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Hilbert College Men's Lacrosse hosted SUNY Cobleskill this evening at Nichols High School in what was an exciting back-and-forth contest that ultimately saw the Hawks pull out their first victory of the season by a score of 11-10.

Joey DiMaria opened the scoring in this one less than a minute after Landin Piniewski secured possession for the Hawks on the opening faceoff. Ethan Barlow recorded both the ground ball on the faceoff and the assist on the DiMaria marker.

Cobleskill answered with the next four goals to take a 4-1 lead with a little over three minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Matthew Kennedy's first of the game at the 2:44 mark sparked a three-goal run by the Hawks that featured two more goals from DiMaria before the first quarter ended to tie the game at four all.

Two straight goals from the Fighting Tigers gave the visitors a 6-4 lead, but DiMaria's fourth of the game brought Hilbert within one when the buzzer sounded for halftime.

Jason Sage opened the scoring in the second half to tie the game at six, but SUNY Cobleskill responded to once again take the lead back.

The Hawks grabbed their largest lead of the game on three straight goals from Aidan Franko, DiMaria, and Kennedy.

The teams traded goals to begin the fourth quarter to make it 10-8, but a goal from the Fighting Tigers with 3:33 remaining in the game made it a one-goal-game.

Matthew Kennedy's fourth goal of the game gave the Hawks a much needed two goal lead with 2:17 to go.

Cobleskill added another goal with just over a minute remaining in the contest, but time ran out on their comeback bid as Hilbert took this one 11-10
