MACY, N.Y. – Hilbert College Men's Lacrosse took their first road trip today when they traveled to SUNY Poly for a late-afternoon game under the lights.
The Hawks fell behind early but made it a two-goal game midway through the second quarter before losing a 12-5 tilt to the Wildcats.
Matthew Kennedy led the Hawks with seven shots as he and Aidan Franko scored two goals each. Jason Sage, who assisted on Franko's second goal, tallied the other Hilbert hit which was assisted by Kristopher Newman.
SUNY Poly built a four-goal lead ten minutes into the first quarter. Franko put the Hawks on the board at the start of the second quarter and then Kennedy (man up) and Sage found the back of the net less than 15-seconds apart to climb back to a two-goal game (5-3) at 3:55.
The Wildcats strung together back-to-back scores taking an 8-3 lead to the break. Sage set up Franko at 12:52 in the third session, and after falling behind 11-4, Kennedy connected for the final Hilbert score at 11:41.
Griffin Miller maintained his nationally-ranked saves per game average recording 19 saves in the loss.
Joseph Gorman registered three caused turnovers and two ground balls, and Mason Shehadi added one caused turnover and two ground balls.
Hilbert's defense shutdown the Wildcats who went 0-4 in extra man opportunities.
Hilbert (0-3) returns home this weekend when they host Bryn Athyn College in 12 pm game at St. Francis High School.
