WILKES-BARRE, PA – Hilbert Women's Hockey played in their final game of this season this evening as they finished up their two-game weekend set with Wilkes University. Similarly to yesterday's 8-1 contest, the hosting Colonels applied constant pressure in the offensive zone tonight to record 69 shots and come away with a 10-1 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks had a chance to match yesterday's early tally with a pair of shots by
Abby Dawson on the powerplay, but the Wilkes' goaltender was up to the challenge. These stops ignited the offense of the Colonels, as a shorthanded goal kickstarted four straight goals by the hosts to get out to a 4-0 lead in the first. However, on her third shot of the game, Dawson found the back of the net for her first of the season, and third of her career.
Anna Faulkner collected the lone assist on the tally.
Wilkes kept up the offense in the third period, sending 24 shots at Hilbert goalie
Cassie Troy. Troy stopped 22 shots, but the Colonels beat her three times in the middle frame to extend their lead to 7-1 heading into the third period.
The Colonels fired 20 more shots, scoring another three goals in the third period to close out the game and complete the 10-1 final score.
GAME NOTES
The Hawks wrapped up their second season of competition tonight, finishing with a 1-15 record while earning the first win in program history along the way.
