Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Andrew Loveless

Hawks Fall to Bradford in Fast-Paced AMCC Game of the Week.

BRADFORD, PA – Hilbert College Men's Basketball traveled to Bradford, Pa this afternoon for this week's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Game of the Week between the conference's last two remaining unbeaten squads.

Hilbert scored a season-high 103 points in the game, but Pitt Bradford, who entered the contest third in Division III in scoring with 107.1 points per contest, used their fast-paced offense and pressing defense to hand Hilbert its' first AMCC defeat of the season with 117 points of their own.

Larry Morse had a career day for the Hawks in the losing effort as he posted career-high totals in all five major categories. The sophomore forward filled the stat sheet with 30 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and three blocks.

Joining Morse in double figures for Hilbert were Quran Briggs (19 points), Shaheem Ellis (14 points) and Sonny Williams who poured in a career-high 12 points.

The teams traded quick buckets to begin the contest as the score was knotted at both eight and ten inside the first three minutes. After Bradford took the lead, the Hawks worked to within one-point multiple times on an Ellis three and a pair of Briggs layups.

However, the full-court press of the Panthers led to an eleven-point run on the back of three Hilbert turnovers to open up a 33-19 advantage for the hosts.

Morse, Ronnie Lewis, Briggs, and Williams all chipped in to cut the lead to just five points, but the Panthers finished the half strong to extend the lead back up to eight points heading into the locker room.

When the second half began the Hawks got points from Morse (three points) Ellis (three points) and Briggs (three points) inside the first three minutes, but a trio of layups and a pair of threes saw Bradford build on their lead in this span.

Malachi Hartley and Sonny Williams connected on back-to-back jumpers to bring the Hawks within five points, but once again, the hosts quickly found the offense to make up for it as the Bobcats owned a 14-point lead with 11:25 to go.

The deficit remained double digits the rest of the way for the Hawks, with Bradford opening up leads of 19 and 18-points before the final horn sounded.

Sizable margins for Bradford in turnovers (22-10) and points off turnovers (27-12) told the story in this one as the Panthers used their 15-point advantage in points off turnovers to earn a 14-point victory.

The Hawks held a slight advantage in second chance points (22-15) but that was erased by a 33-25 deficit in fast break points.
