ALFRED, NY – Hilbert Men's Soccer traveled to Pioneer Stadium this evening for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest under the lights against Alfred State College. The Hawks stayed with the undefeated Pioneers the entire game but slipped in a 3-0 loss to the Pioneers.
Alfred State applied the pressure early on, taking four shots on the Hilbert net in the first 25 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper
Daniel Downes stopped all four to keep it 0-0, but the Pioneers found the breakthrough shortly after. A 26th minute strike broke the scoreless tie and sent the hosts into the break up 1-0.
Alfred quickly doubled the advantage when play began in the second half with a 48th minute goal to make it 2-0. Downes made a pair of saves after the second goal to keep the Hawks in the contest. However, the third Alfred State goal came in the 65th minute to wrap up the scoring in the contest and give the Pioneers a 4-0 AMCC start.
