ALFRED, NY – Hilbert College Football traveled to Yunevich Stadium this afternoon for the team's second Empire 8 matchup of the year. The Hawks battled the Saxons from Alfred University who proved to be too much for Hilbert on both sides of the ball. A 28-0 halftime advantage helped the Saxons cruise to a 47-0 victory to drop the Hawks to 0-5 on the year and 0-2 in Empire 8 play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alfred enjoyed trips to the endzone on their first two drives of the game, while the Saxons' defense forced a punt and a fumble to keep Hilbert off the scoreboard early.
Joshua Auman stopped Alfred short on a fourth down attempt to give the Hawks the ball and keep it a 14-0 game heading into the second quarter.
A blocked punt after Hilbert's first possession of the quarter set up the Alfred offense with a short field, which they capitalized on to make it 21-0. After a drive that saw
Mike Hanlon rush for 44 yards ended in a punt, the Hawks forced a turnover on the next Saxon possession.
Moses Boadu picked off the Alfred quarterback at midfield for his first career interception to set his offense up in plus territory. However, a Hilbert fumble would allow Alfred to score a fourth touchdown of the half and take a 28-0 lead into the break.
After a safety on Hilbert's first possession began the half,
Takhi West recorded the second interception of the game for the Hawks with 8:32 left in the third quarter.
A Hilbert punt, and a pair of turnover on downs (one by each team) finished out the quarter to send the game into the fourth 30-0.
The game's final quarter would be its' highest scoring as a pair of touchdowns and the first and only field goal of the afternoon gave the Saxons the 47-0 conference win.
