HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Women's Volleyball team played with a lot of guts tonight taking Penn State Behrend to four sets before dropping the AMCC match 25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16.

With their 25-23 second set win, the Hawks recorded a program first set victory over the Lions dating back to the 2013 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Hawks trailed in the opening set mainly due to their frustration with serve receive.
• Hilbert was able to extend rallies and wore out the Lions in the second set, especially after stacking five points together which created the 20-16 advantage.  The Lions knotted the game at 23-all yet that didn't phase Hilbert who took the win off a Jesses Jonathan skip-set kill.
• The third set was played at a much faster pace, with players shifting all over the court in order to keep play alive or finish a transition.  Behrend stretched a 15-14 advantage into a 20-15 lead and didn't look back.
• Jonathan's service ace to start the fourth set was Hilbert's only lead in the game as the Lions controlled the scoreboard the entire set.  The Hawks spread the ball around involving the back row with multiple attacks in addition to quick hits by the net.  After building a 21-12 score, Behrend and Hilbert traded points to the 25-16 final.

UP NEXT

Hilbert (5-17, 3-4) hits the road this weekend for another tough match at Mount Aloysius College (11-13, 3-2).  The Hawks are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, yet it is too early to make a call as which teams will be advancing to six-team postseason tournament.

Hilbert concludes their non-conference schedule next with against Buffalo State (November 6) and at SUNY Fredonia November 9.  The AMCC postseason tournament kids off Wednesday, November 13th.
