Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Match to Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. – Playing in their final non-conference match before the Hawks head to eight consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference games, Hilbert College dropped a straight set loss to Alfred State College tonight.

QUICK HITS

Final:  Alfred State 25, 25 25  |  Hilbert 13, 18, 15
Records:  Hilbert Hawks 2-13 | Alfred State Pioneers 9-5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After building a 4-0 lead, the Hawks suffered through an 8-point Pioneer run, but they kept it a five-point spread until the hosts extended the margin to eight points (12-20).  Alfred State closed the set with five consecutive points for the opening set victory.
  • As they did in the opening set, the Hawks were competitive and traded points with the Pioneers until Alfred State used a 7-0 run to go up 13-5.  Hilbert pulled within five points (10-15) and closed the set forcing multiple side outs before falling 25-18.
  • Both teams found their rhythm in cycles in the third set, with Alfred State stretching their momentum further than the Hawks in their 25-15 win.

The Hawks scored 27 points off 24 kills, one service ace and one block while A-State collected 54 points off 40 kills, 10 service aces and four blocks.

Katie Kociszewski recorded a team-best eight kills (.313) and one solo block along with a block assist while Natalie Ruhlmann was credited with nine digs.  Jessee Jonathan added 16 assists.
