Schlenker's Late-Game Goal Gave Hilbert A Chance Against Altoona

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Women's Soccer team battled to the final horn, but they were unable to record their second consecutive victory today in their 2-1 AMCC loss to Penn State Altoona.

Freshman Novalee Schlenker tallied her first goal in her collegiate career late in the game.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Penn State Altoona 2 | Hilbert 1
  • Location: Hawks Varsity Field
  • Records:  Hilbert 1-11-0, 1-3-0 AMCC  I  Altoona 2-6-2, 2-0-1 AMCC
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions scored their first goal in the sixth minute when Mallorie Smith played with the ball longer than normal before tapping it over the end line.
  • Taylor Frederick connected with Smith for Altoona's second goal and that 2-0 lead lasted for the next 60-minutes.
  • Novalee Schlenker chased down a long ball, battled a few defenders to the box and hit the back of the net in the 86th minute to pull the Hawks within one point.
GAME NOTES
  • Keira McFarland was credited with only six saves including two punch-over-the-goal shots, but her ability to break up serves to the box was on full display today.
  • Both teams were physical and played aggressive soccer this afternoon.  The Lions doubled the Hawks in fouls (12-6) and both teams were given a pair of yellow cards.
  • Chloe Champagne shifted from midfield to defense as the contest progressed, but she was still able to fight for the only other Hilbert shot ongoal recorded.
