Men's Soccer Draws Bryant & Stratton for Second Time This Season

BUFFALO NY – Hilbert Men's Soccer took on Bryant & Stratton this evening for the second meeting of the year between the two sides. Like the last matchup, the goals were split evenly tonight, with the action-filled match ending 4-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a trio of saves from Daniel Downes to keep the game scoreless, Carter Burke opened the scoring in the contest with his second goal in as many games. A long free kick was misplayed by the Bobcats' keeper and fell right to the feet of Burke who made no mistake in giving the Hawks the 1-0 lead.

However, three quick goals for the Bobcats before halftime resulted in a 3-1 lead for the hosts heading into the break.

Burke quickly cut the lead in half early in the second half with his second of the game. A long ball from Jacob Korte sent the Hawks' forward through on goal where he calmly slotted the ball past the Bryant & Stratton keeper to make it 3-2.

A little over ten minutes later, Cam Murdie's first goal of the season knotted the game at three all. Beckham Blair's cross met Murdie at the back post where he found the back of the net to tie the game.

The Bobcats looked to regain control of the match with a solo goal in the 83rd minute, but Hilbert was awarded a penalty less than a minute later.

John Schroth stepped up to the spot for the Hawks and placed the ball in the back of the net for his first of the season to once again tie the game, this time at 4-4.

The Hawks had a look at a late winner, but Jason Vullo's attempt was turned aside to end the game 4-4.

GAME NOTES
  • Burke led the offensive efforts of the Hawks with five shots on net to go with his two goals.
  • Murdie and Schroth each scored their first goal of the campaign.
  • Downes made six stops in net in a busy game between the pipes.
