BUFFALO, NY – Hilbert Women's Hockey made the short trip to Buffalo State Ice Arena this evening to take on the Bengals. Despite a 57 save effort from goalie
Tia Card, the Hawks fell 7-0 in their fourth all-time meeting with Buff State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the first nine Bengal attempts on net were either blocked or saved by card, the hosts eventually broke through on a shot from the slot to take a 1-0 lead 7:20 into the game. Card went on to save twelve straight shots to end the period down just one goal and keep her team in the contest.
After six more stops from Card to start the middle frame, the Bengals doubled their lead on a shot from the point just under three minutes in. Two more quick goals for Buff State had their lead up to 4-0 heading into the final period of play.
Just like the previous period, the Bengals found the back of the net three more times in the third to complete the 7-0 final.
The penalty kill of the Hawks was a perfect 3/3 in the first two periods, but the Bengal powerplay found success with a pair of goals with the extra skater in the third period.
