Volleyball Off To A Fast Start, Open With 2-Match Sweep

ALBANY, N.Y.  –  Hilbert College Men's Volleyball went undefeated today when they opened their 2024 season in a tri match hosted by Russell Sage College.
 
The Hawks swept the Gators (3-0) in the mid-day match and then outlasted Wells College (3-1) in the early afternoon game.
 
Today's performance marks the first time in program history where the men's volleyball team started the season with a pair of wins on opening day.

NEWS and NOTES
 
12 pm vs Russell Sage Gators 
  • Hilbert finished the three-set match with 20 kills (6 errors) and a .264 attack percent while the Gators finished with 25 kills (31 errors) and a -.073 percent.
  • The Hawks collected 11 blocks, six service aces and only 16 assists off their 20 kills.
  • A Chandler (13 assists) feed three primary teammates at the net.  Brad Converse led with five kills while Alex Overhoff and Connor Higgins (2 service aces) each recorded four kills.
  • Michael Pozzuto led defensively with six digs while Nick Diello was a bear at the net finishing with two solo blocks and four block assists.
  • The Hawks were able to string together multiple runs in each of the three sets to pull out the sweep over the hosts. 
2pm Wells Express 
  • Hilbert finished the four-set match with 46 kills (22 errors) and a .194 attack percent while the Express collected 47 kills (23 errors) and a .185 percent.
  • The Hawks recorded six blocks, nine service aces and 37 assists of their 46 kills.
  • Brad Converse exploded with 14 kills (.270) and three service aces while Nikolas D'Andrea and Tyler Hassell (2 aces) trailed with nine kills each.
  • Michael Pozzuto, who played only three of the four sets, led with 16 digs trailed by a 4-set, setter A Chandler who recorded 32 assists and three service aces.
  • Hassell also added two solo blocks and two block assists. 
UP NEXT

Hilbert returns to action next week when they travel to Utica for another day trip, tri match.  The Hawks will face SUNY Poly at 12 pm before they tackle Rutgers – Newark at 2pm.
