WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Hilbert College Women's Volleyball team returned to action after a ten-day break and split their series in the tri-match hosted by Waynesburg University this afternoon.
The Hawks swept Penn St.-Shenango prior to dropping a three-set defeat to the hosts.
Michaela Rice averaged 2.67 kills per set while
Natalie Ruhlmann finished the day with a 5.33 digs per set average.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Penn St.-Shenango
- Hilbert built an early lead twice (7-3 and 19-11) but the Lions roared back, earning only one point in a seven-point swing to force a 19-all score. Four different Hawks earned kills to close the first set out in Hilbert's favor.
- The Hawks took control early and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the second set, always in a double figure lead through to the end.
- Both teams traded serves and points through to a 9-8 Hilbert lead. The Hawks then went on a 7-1 run building a 16-9 margin. Hilbert stacked a few points on at a time and rolled to the sweep over the Lions.
- Michaela Rice led with 10 kills, But Katie Kociszewski finished with the best hitting percent (5/1/10 - .400) and three service aces. Jessee Jonathan recorded 28 assists and was one of four Hawks to reach double digit digs. Natalie Ruhlmann led with 17, Rice added 15, Jonathan picked up 12 and Jenna Revak was credited with 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Waynesburg
- The Yellowjackets were given points early in the set (8-4) and held a 20-6 lead by the time the Hawks stacked six points together. Waynesburg won their final two points at the net.
- The second set was much more competitive with the Hawks pulling within two points (11-13) off a block assist by Kociszewski and Rice as well as a Rice service ace. Waynesburg collected points in flurries while allowing the Hawks only one or two points at a time as they took the second set 25-17.
- The Yellowjackets opened the third set with a 5-0 run, extended their hold with another five-point run (13-5) and put the match away with their third 5-point rally putting them at 23-9.
- Michaela Rice earned six kills and two service aces while McKenna Rice went 4/2/7 with the best hitting percentage (.286). Ruhlmann was the only Hawk to net 15 digs.
