CRESSON, Pa. – Hilbert Women's Soccer overcame a slow start in Mount Aloysius on their way to an entertaining 5-4 win. The victory improves the Hawks to 2-0 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was not the ideal start for the Hawks in this one, as the hosting Mounties found the back of the net on the first shot of the game, just over a minute in. It would only get worse for the Hawks, as Mount Aloysius doubled their lead before the eight-minute mark. However, Hilbert got on the board to cut the lead in half with a
Grace Zabawa goal assisted by
Gabrielle Avallone in the 28th minute. Zabawa was involved again, as she assisted
Chloe Champagne's tying goal less than ten minutes later. The 2-2 scoreline would hold into the half.
The second half saw the scoring continue. Zabawa's second of the game gave the Hawks the lead 12 minutes in.
Laura Smith's first career goal doubled the Hilbert lead less than a minute later. The two-goal advantage wouldn't last long for the Hawks, as Mount Aloysius responded right back with a goal of their own two minutes later. The Mounties knotted the game up at four apiece in the 67th minute, setting up for an exciting finish. The tie breaking goal would come from freshman,
Isabelle Hilbert. Her first career goal, in the 78th minute would be the difference in this one, propelling the Hawks past the Mounties 5-4.
