HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Women's Volleyball team played Houghton University for the second time this month and suffered the same result, dropping the non-conference match to the Highlanders.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Houghton 25, 23, 25, 25 | Hilbert 13, 25, 15, 16
- Location: Nielson Center | Houghton University
- Records: Hilbert 6-6 | Houghton 3-6
HOW IT HAPPENED -
- Hilbert jumped out to an early lead in the first set. That lead disappeared after the Highlanders went on an 11-4 run and pulled away in the first set.
- The Hawks, after earning only four points in the first set, recorded 17 of their 25 points in the second set victory.
- Hilbert pulled within three points (12-15) after earning nine points in the third set. But the hosts stacked kills and service aces together and went up 2-1 in set wins.
- The fourth set was very evenly played through a 10-10 score. Houghton forced a pair of Hilbert timeouts in what turned out to be the set changing seven-point swing. That run shifted the momentum late in the game.
Jazzelle McLean led the Hawks with three solo blocks,
Natalie Ruhlmann led with 11 digs,
Jessee Jonathan finished with 22 assists and
Maria Spinelli and
Michaela Rice each added eight kills.
