HOUGHTON, N.Y – Hilbert men's soccer dropped today's season opener 5-2 in Houghton to the hosting Highlanders.
John Schroth and
Carter Burke each found the back of the net in the losing effort. The opening-day loss drops the Hawks record to 0-1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A pair of Caleb Bailey goals saw the Highlanders take a 2-0 lead a little over 16 minutes into the match.
Schroth's tally a half hour into the match would cut the Highlander lead in half to make things interesting going into halftime.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, Bailey wasted no time in completing his hat trick when play resumed in the second half. The Baily tally kick started a flurry of goals to begin the second half.
Burke opened his account for the season with a quick response to bring the Hawks back within one. However, a fourth Baily goal doubled the Houghton lead just two minutes later. Houghton put things out of reach by way of an Iann Dominic marker assisted by Bailey.
