Softball Falls Short On Senior Day

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert Hawks Softball team played their second last home double header of the season and also celebrated four seniors today. Before the double header the Hawks held a ceremony for seniors Bailey Budziszewski, Abigail Dent, Victoria Lakeman and Maddie Fusco. They would unfortunately go on to lose both games of the day though with only one more chance to earn a win.

Game One: Hilbert 1 – Pitt Bradford 10
Game Two: Hilbert 3 – Pitt Bradford 18

Game One:
  • Brittany McAndrews played the complete game in the first and also started the second game of the day. Pitt Bradford started off the day strong with a four hit, three run inning in the top of the first. The Hawks struggled to get their bats going today despite Victoria Hanley hitting a triple to right field in the first.
  • Pitt Bradford continued to pile on the offense and pressure by scoring four runs on five hits in the second. The Hawks only had one player earn a hit in the bottom of the inning though with Chloe Champagne hitting a single.
  • Pitt Bradford managed to score three more runs over the next innings to increase their lead to ten runs. The Hawks did answer back though in the bottom of the fourth scoring their first run of the day. Paige Mullen scored the run after she came in to run for Bailey Budziszewski. She was brought in by Mackenzie Catan.
  • Neither Pitt Bradford nor Hilbert was able to score in the fifth inning of the game which resulted in the game ending early.

Game Two:
  • Pitt Bradford made quick work of the second game of the day scoring nine runs in the top of the first. Emma Gionta was the first Hawk to reach first in the second outing after she was hit by a pitch.
  • The second and third innings were both slow. Pitt Bradford was only able to earn three hits but the Hawks didn't have a runner reach first base.
  • Pitt Bradford ended this offensive silence with another big inning in the fourth. They scored five runs on seven hits to take a 14-0 lead. The Hawks did not give up though. In the bottom of the fourth Hilbert's bats started to heat up scoring three runs. Bailey Budziszewski earned an RBI bringing in Emma Gionta. Morgan Ebert hit a single to right field which brought home Victoria Hanley who had hit a double. Finally Adriana Vara earned an RBI on a single up the middle of the field to bring in Morgan Ebert.
  • Pitt Bradford answered back strongly though scoring four more runs to put the game out of reach. In their final at bats of the day no Hawk was able to earn a hit but Bailey Budziszewski was able to reach first.
