Softball Battles Until The End

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Softball team played their final double header of the season today against AMCC opponent Mount Aloysius. On the rainy day the Hawks lost both games to close out their season.

Game One: Hilbert 3 – Mount Aloysius 15
Game Two: Hilbert 0 – Mount Aloysius 15

Game One:
  • Brittany McAndrews started both games at pitcher for the Hawks today. Hilbert got off to a strong start defensively putting all three batters down in order. They were not able to muster up any offense though only recording one hit by Victoria Hanley who earned a single.
  • In the second inning Mount Aloysius turned up the offense scoring three runs on three hits. Hilbert again would only record one hit with Chloe Champagne hitting a single to right field. She did manage to steal second but they were unable to advance her any further.
  • In the top of the third Mount Aloysius added one more run to make it 4-0 but the Hawks answered back with a run of their own. Victoria Lakeman hit a single to third base and was eventually brought home by Bailey Budziszewski to make it a three run game with two innings remaining.
  • Mount Aloysius then put the pressure on the Hawks by taking a nine run lead heading into the bottom of the fifth meaning the Hawks would need to score twice to keep the game alive. Thanks to RBI's by Emma Gionta and Victoria Hanley the Hawks were able to stretch the game into the sixth inning.
  • Mount Aloysius continued to pile on the offense though scoring five more runs making the game 15-3. The Hawks were unable to record a hit in the final inning and as a result they called the game.

Game Two:
  • The rain began to fall as the second game began. Despite the poor weather the Hawks again started the game strong defensively only allowing one hit. The Hawks also only earned one hit though with Victoria Hanley hitting a double to center field.
  • Mount Aloysius blew the game wide open in the top of the second scoring nine runs. Hilbert's struggles on offense began here as well as they did not record a hit.
  • After a strong second inning for Mount Aloysius they put another great inning in the batter's box scoring six more times making it 15-0.
  • Throughout the rest of the game there would only be two more hits recorded in all, one by each team. Bailey Budziszewski earned the hit for the Hawks with a single to left center field. This would mean though that the Hawks were unable to score and the game came to a close in the fifth inning.
