HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Hawks men's lacrosse team hosted United East Conference opponent St. Mary's College of Maryland at home over Easter weekend in a battle of UEC unbeaten teams. The visiting Seahawks took the win by a final score of 17-6.
How It Happened: The Seahawks (8-5, 2-0 UEC) took control early in this one and never took their foot off the gas against the Hawks (3-4, 2-1 UEC). St. Mary's scored 8 unanswered goals in the 1
st half before
Ryan Davis broke the shutout.
Griffin Miller stood tall in net for Hilbert making 14 saves as he was peppered all afternoon, but more impressively he had two assists on the day as well. The 2
nd Hawks goal was a halftime buzzer beater from
Joey DiMaria on a long stretch pass from Miller.
DiMaria scored again in the 3
rd quarter.
Kevin Doyle notched two goals in the 4
th quarter.
Jack Scherrer deflected a DiMaria shot in the late stages of the game that found it's way into the back of the net as well. The Hawks forced 12 turnovers led by
Joseph Gorman with 6 and 5 ground balls. The final score was 17-6 Seahawks.
What's Next: Hilbert College plays host to Keuka College (4-3, 0-2 Empire 8) on Wednesday, April 12
th, at Hawk Field on campus.
