Hawks Drop Two At Home

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College softball team played a non-conference double header today against Keuka College.Both games did not go Hilbert's way as they lost both in five innings.
 
Game One: Hilbert 4 – Keuka 15
Game Two: Hilbert 1 – Keuka 12
 
Game One:
  • Brittany McAndrews started at pitcher for both games today. In the first one Keuka got off to an early lead scoring two runs on four hits. The Hawks also scored in the first inning. Makenna Smith walked and advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Victoria Hanley RBI.
  • Keuka's bats were great in the second inning though. They managed to score seven runs on five hits including an infield home run. Hilbert did manage to score again though. Victoria Lakeman grounded out to the pitcher but in the process earned an RBI from Renee Barnes who scored on the play.
  • Keuka's offense continued rolling though in the third scoring five more runs on four hits. The Hawks would not give up and as a result Bailey Budsiszewski earned an RBI with a single to center field that brought home Chloe Champagne.
  • Gina Salerno came in at pitcher for the Hawks in the fourth inning and played well not allowing a hit. The Hawks only managed to earn one hit though with Mackenzie Catan hitting a single. Keuka added one more run for insurance in the top of the fifth and the Hawks scored once more as well before the end of the game. Chloe Champagne hit a triple down the right field line and was brought home by Victoria Hanley.
 
Game Two:
  • Keuka came out hot in the first similar to the first game of the day. They scored four runs on four hits. Then they scored another run on two hits in the second. The Hawks were held hitless in both the first and second innings. Emma Gionta did manage to reach first on a walk.
  • Keuka continued their strong day offensively in the third scoring two more runs on four hits. The Hawks were still held hitless through the bottom of the third.
  • Keuka increased their lead to 10-0 with a three hit three run inning. The Hawks scored first and only run of the game in the fourth. Victoria Hanley walked and Chloe Champagne pinch ran for her. After stealing second she advanced to third and was brought in by Leandra Cruz.
  • Keuka scored two more times in the fifth and final inning making it 12-1 meaning the Hawks needed to score four times to keep the game alive. They did come up short only earning one hit by Morgan Ebert who hit a single.
 
Up Next
Next on the schedule is the Hawks second last home double header of the season. They will play Mount Aloysius on May 3rd at 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
