HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College softball team held a double header today against AMCC opponent Alfred State College. In the first game Alfred State gained an early lead and never let Hilbert close but in the second game it was a constant battle up and down.
Game One: Hilbert 1 – Alfred State College 14
Game Two: Hilbert 7 – Alfred State College 22
Game One:
- Alfred State earned almost all of their runs in the first inning of the game. They managed to score twelve runs on twelve hits. They also only let Makenna Smith reach first on a single.
- The Hawks held Alfred State hitless in the next two innings. In that span Tayler Avery reached first on a walk and Makenna Smith hit another single to earn her second hit of the game.
- In the top of the fourth Alfred State added on their final two runs of the game in a three hit inning. The Hawks scored their first run of the day in the fourth Bailey Budziszewski hitting a single to center field. Paige Mullen would pinch run for her and eventually be brought home by Tayler Avery.
- Neither team could get anything going in the fifth other than a Leandra Cruz single to second base. The game would come to a close 14-1.
Game Two:
- The Hawks had a much better start to the second game of the day with Brittany McAndrews pitching. They allowed three runs in the first but held them off the scoresheet in the second. Victoria Lakeman was the only Hawk to earn a hit in the first two innings with a single.
- Alfred State scored their fourth run of the game in the third inning and the Hawks answered back with a run of their own. Makenna Smith hit a double and found a way to advance to third and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
- Alfred State added four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to make it a nine run game meaning the Hawks needed to score to keep the game going. They managed to score six runs on six hits. Victoria Hanley earned two RBI's bringing in Abigail Dent and Chloe Champagne. Bailey Budziszewski added two RBI's as well bringing in Tayler Avery and Victoria Hanley. Kate Sanjek and Chloe Champagne both earned RBI's as well with Sanjek bringing in Renee Barnes and Champagne bringing in Sanjek.
- Alfred State answered back scoring one run in the sixth and eventually eleven in the final inning of play to put it out of reach for the Hawks.
