MYRTLE BEACH, S.C, - Hilbert College's softball team continued on with the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic today in another double header today against Lancaster Bible College and Clarks Summit University.
In the first game Hilbert held the game close for the first couple of innings but eventually Lancaster Bible College managed to pull away and end the game in 6 innings.

Game One:

Bailey Budziszewski started off the game pitching for Hilbert and in the first inning Hilbert held Lancaster Bible to only 1 run. Hilbert did not manage to score in the first despite Avery Cusack getting on base due to a walk and eventually advancing to third.

Lancaster Bible picked up the pace in the second inning though scoring 3 runs to give themselves a 4-0 lead. This was until Makenna Smith hit a double into right field which brought in Mackenzie Catan and Victoria Lakeman to make it a 2 run game.

The third inning was great defensively for the Hawks as they managed to only allow one runner on base that they eventually threw out as she was trying to steal. It was the same for the Hawks though as they could not score.

Lancaster Bible got 5 runs though in the fourth inning and was starting to pull away. Hilbert only managed to get 1 run with Mackenzie Catan reaching home plate.

Hilbert tried to claw back into the game with Mackenzie Catan bringing in Emma Gionta and Tayler Avery bringing in Makenna Smith. It would not be enough though as Lancaster Bible would go on to score 6 more times.
Game Two:

The Hawks came out hot in their second game of the day. Makenna Smith, Emma Gionta and Bailey Budziszewski all managed to get on base early. Emma Gionta scored on a wild pitch then Victoria Hanley singled up the middle and brought in 2 more runs. The Hawks got the first three batters out for Clarks Summit quick with Brittany McAndrews in at pitcher.

The Hawks struggled offensively in the second inning though with no one getting on base. Clarks Summit did manage to get a run and cut Hilbert's lead down to 2.

Again though the Hawks would struggle offensively and Clarks Summit would take advantage of this. They scored 4 runs to take a 5-3 lead.

Victoria Hanley managed to work her way around the diamond and eventually scored to bring the Hawks within 1. The Hawks shutdown Clarks Summit defensively as well to keep the game close.

Clarks Summit University took over offensively though, they continued to grow their lead and eventually won 12-4.
Up Next
Hilbert Softball gets a day break on Tuesday the 7th then they are right back at it on the 8th for another double header. They will play Eastern Nazarene College at 9 AM and then Penn State Mont Alto at 11 AM.
