Quran Briggs and
Edward Perez were Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference selections today when the AMCC announced the 2023 Men's Basketball All-Conference Team and Award Winners.
Quran Briggs was placed on the First Team and
Edward Perez earned a spot on the Second Team.
La Roche University's Devon Darrell was named the Player of the Year and Penn State Altoona's Dwayne Jones garnered the Defensive Player of the Year award. Matthew McDonough (Penn State Behrend) and Jeremy Rodriguez (Pitt-Bradford) were selected as Co-Newcomers of the Year. La Roche's Hermie Carmichael and his staff were named the Coach of the Year.
Quran Briggs (Chance, MD/Mount Hebron) and
Edward Perez (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) helped guide the men's basketball team to a 9-5 league record and the right to host a First Round play-off game February 21st. The No. 3 host fell in defeat to No. 6 Pitt-Bradford and ended their season with a 12-13 overall record.
Quran Briggs led the men's basketball team in scoring 15 of their 25 games played. The 6'1 guard averaged 18.9 points per game which ranked him fourth in the AMCC. Briggs connected at a 47.7% rate from the field, hitting 29% beyond the arc and 67.9% at the foul line. He also averaged 4.4 rebounds per game but was one rebound shy in two games of notching his first career double-double. Briggs recorded 454 points, 105 rebounds, 44 assists, three blocks and 27 steals while establishing his career-high 33 points twice during the year. Briggs was named to the Hawks Against Hunger Tip-Off Tournament Team at the beginning of the season, was selected as the AMCC Player of the Week November 28th, and closed his sophomore campaign on the AMCC All-Tournament Team as well as being recognized as a First Team All-Conference player.
Edward Perez was a quiet contributor all year long, doing the dirty work on the boards and in the lane. The 6'4 forward averaged 11.9 points and 6.7 rebounds in 27.4 minutes per game. Perez recorded 297 points, 168 rebounds, 34 assists, 22 blocks and 18 steals. He earned six double doubles during the season and reached for 21 points against three different opponents this winter. Perez earned a season-high 12 rebounds against Pitt-Greensburg and three blocks in his final game of the season against Pitt-Bradford. Perez was named the AMCC Player of the Week December 19th and can now add a Third Team All-Conference tag to his sophomore season.
