Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Kara Rehbaum

Volleyball Falls To AMCC League Leaders

ERIE, Pa.  – Hilbert College gave the league-leading Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team a fight in the first game, then dropped back-to-back sets enroute to the 3-0 loss to the undefeated Lions tonight.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hawks earned 31 points, 26 kills, three service aces, two blocks, 24 assists and 32 digs while playing the Lions who collected 57 points, 43 kills, five aces, nine blocks, 40 assists and 39 digs.
  • Behrend killed their way the first four points in the opening set but the Hawks hung around and sliced the difference to three points (14-16) thanks to a Lion service error and a Chris Laboy kill.  Behrend put together a cluster of three-point runs to post the 25-19 win.
  • Hilbert led early 4-3 but fell into a three-point hole (9-6) before a Hilbert rally.   The Hawks matched the hosts on the scoreboard at 11-all, then lost momentum.  Behrend used a four-point spurt to force a Hilbert timeout and then rolled to the 25-17 win.
  • Hilbert hung with the Lions in the third set, knotting the score at 8's and 9's.   Three Lion kills and a service ace created the 14-9 score.  Hilbert earned four of their final five points  of kills and one service ace.
Nick Diello finished with five kills with one error (.400) and two block assists while Chris Laboy and Alex Overhoff added seven and six kills respectively.  Brad Converse was credited with eight digs and Austin Chandler led with 21 assists.
