HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Men's Soccer fell to current AMCC #1 seed, Penn State Behrend this afternoon. The Hawks were unable to record a shot against the stingy defense of the Lions in the 3-0 defeat.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The story of the first half of the contest was the play of the Hilbert defense, and goalkeeper,
Logan Peck. The Lion offense threw everything they had at the Hawks' backline, with 19 shots and nine corner kicks. Peck held strong making seven saves, and the defensive unit of the Hawks made several key blocks and clearances to keep it a scoreless first half.
In a game where they totaled 39 shots, with 16 on target, a goal seemed inevitable for the Lions. Their breakthrough occurred just five minutes after play resumed in the second half. Jonathan Swann's strike from outside of the box in the 50
th minute gave the visitors a 1-0 lead. Swann added another on a cross from Blake Cooper in the 63
rd minute to double their advantage. A third Behrend goal came in the 83
rd minute to wrap up the 3-0 game.
GAME NOTES
- Peck made 13 saves in net.
- The Hawks end the season 4-5 in the conference, clinching a spot in the playoffs.
UP NEXT
Next up for the Hawks is the postseason. As the sixth seed, the men will travel to the third seeded Pioneers from Alfred State on Saturday. The winner of the first-round matchup heads to the semifinals next Wednesday.
