HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team displayed any get-up-and-go in the opening set as they hung around each other's side outs. The Express pulled away, extending a 10-8 lead to a 17-8 margin and held on the for first set victory.
- The Hawks came out with more energy and built a 7-3 lead which they held through a 21-18 score. Hilbert, with set-point on the line (24-19) gave up five points, facing a 24-all score. Rice lifted the Hawks off a kill, but the Express benefited from back-to-back Hilbert attack errors for the 27-25 win.
- The crowd inside the Hafner got into the match and seemed to give both teams some energy in the third set. Hilbert rallied late in, though they never really trailed by more than three points at any time, and knotted the score at 19-all. Wells won the set from the service line, earning two aces and getting one point off a Hilbert service error in three of the final four points.
