Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Andrew Loveless

Peck's Historic Shutout Helps Hilbert Secure the Road Win

AURORA, N.Y. – Men's Soccer got back in the win column today with a win over Wells on the road. An early goal helped propel the Hawks to a 3-0 victory and improve their record to 2-3 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Relentless pressure off the opening kick-off earned Hilbert an early penalty kick opportunity after Jason Vullo was fouled inside Wells' 18-yard box. It would be Andrew Herstek stepping up for the Hawks 29 seconds into the game from 12 yards out. The freshman could not have placed the ball any better as his shot found the top right of the net for the dream Hilbert start.

After a miscommunication from the back line of the Express, Vullo once again found himself in on goal. However, this time his speed prevented any potential fouls, and allowed him to calmly slot the ball in the back of the net to double the lead in the 15th minute.

The lone Wells' shot of the half was shut down by Logan Peck to keep it a 2-0 game heading into the second half.

Peck kept a 0 on the home side of the scoreboard with a pair of early stops to begin the second half. The Hilbert goalkeeper would only see four shots all game, but he stopped them all to earn the shutout in net. The clean sheet, the third of his career, puts him all alone at the top of the career leader board for the Hawks.

A third Hilbert goal came after a series of well-worked passes between Carter Burke and Cam Murdie down the left sideline. After a Murdie shot, Burke found the loose ball in the box and placed it in the back of the net to wrap up the 3-0 victory for the Hawks.

GAME NOTES
  • Peck stands alone on the shutout leader board.
  • Herstek scored the first of his career from the penalty spot.
  • Murdie led the Hawks with five shots on net.
