Hilbert College travels to Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday afternoon for the first AMCC Women's Basketball Game of the Week of the 2022-23 season. Both the Hawks and the Bobcats carry 4-7 records in non-conference action as they head into AMCC play.
Hilbert has tested the 2023 schedule with a road loss at Case Western Reserve University January 1st, so they are very eager to finish the season focusing strictly on conference opponents. The Hawks are led by Ashley Schroeder, last year's AMCC Woman of the Year nomination. The 5'8 point guard is ranked seventh in the league in scoring and drives Hilbert with 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and two assists in an average of 32 minutes per game. Alesia Hamm leads the Hawks with 48 offensive rebounds (#1 in AMCC) with a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game. Mackenzie Catan can drill the deep shot when left open and Belle Oakley works hard at both ends of the floor for the Hawks.
The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team is coming into conference play as winners of four of the team's last five games since the return of senior point guard Sidney McCully and sophomore guard Melina Maietta. The Bobcats are coming off of a big 21-point victory over Franciscan University on December 30 where Maietta poured in 21 points to lead the Bobcats. McCully is ranked second in the league, averaging 19.1 points per game, while Maietta ranks third in the AMCC with 17.9 points per game. McCully also leads the team with 6.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while Maietta has chipped in with 19 assists and 10 steals.
