HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks started out the game strong with Ashley Schroeder grabbing a rebound off of a Penn State miss and finding Mackenzie Catan for a fast break 3 and the first points of the game. Kelsey Schlagenhauf grabbed a rebound off of a Hilbert miss just 30 seconds later and scored off of that to make it a 5-0 game. Penn State managed to go on an 11-0 run after that to take the lead. This good run would cause the Hawks to trail 21-13 after the first.
- The second quarter would be the worst one for the Hawks Statistically as the Lions outscored them 24-8 to gain a big lead going into halftime. Monika Allen would attempt to shorten the lead and help Hilbert stay in the game by scoring in the paint in the final minutes of the first half.
- The Hawks came out of the gates flying in the third quarter with Alesia Hamm and Ashley Schroeder both scoring early to try and get Hilbert closer. The Lions would not let this happen though using a full court press to keep Hilbert in their own end and draw many turnovers which led to points.
- Going into the fourth quarter the game seemed to be out of reach. Penn State Behrend led by a score of 66-34. In the fourth their lead would just continue to grow but a few bright spots for the Hawks would be Jocelyn Poindexter hitting from deep 2 point range and Mya Wood hitting from three. The game would come to an end 84-44 in favor of the Lions.
GAME NOTES
Penn State drew many turnovers and as a result they outscored Hilbert 35-15 in points off of turnovers. Their bench also played well and was a large part of their win outscoring Hilbert's bench 31-14. The Hawks shot 17 for 56 today and shot a good 6 for 8 from the free throw line.
