CRESSON, P.A. - The Hilbert Hawks Men's Basketball team traveled today to face off against Mt. Aloysius in yet another AMCC battle. After an 84-83 win today in overtime the Hawks now find themselves 4-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
HIGHLIGHTS
Quran Briggs led the Hawks in points with 21 while also earning 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Nevada Eldridge earned a team high 6 rebounds while also managing to score 14 points. Eric Jackson led the team with 8 assists and Edward Perez earned the teams second most points with 16.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Mt. Aloysius came out hot at the start of the game going on a 7-0 run but was stopped by two made free throws by Eric Jackson. Quran Briggs also hit a from deep helping Hilbert to crawl back into the game early.

Shaheem Ellis hit from three multiple times helping HIlbert to grow their lead even more. While Jahmel Demery managed to connect on some free throws as well. A few fouls by HIlbert though towards the end of the first half would allow Mt. Aloysius to make the game a little bit closer as the second half starts. The first half ended with the Hawks in the lead by a score of 41-34.

Edward Perez would start the half for the Hawks by scoring in the paint while at the defensive end the Hawks earned multiple stops. Five minutes into the second half Mt. Aloysius would go on a good run to bring the game within 3 points and make it a 1 score game. Both teams tried to gain an edge in the game halfway through the second half but both managed to continue to score to keep the game close.

In the back end of the second half the game was closer than ever with Hilbert leading by only 1 point. After a good move into the paint by Eric Jackson he was fouled and sent to the line where he would make both free throws to help keep Hilbert in the lead. Quran Briggs would also hit a jumper in an attempt to buoy Hilbert over Mt. Aloysius. The game came down to the final minutes but that would not be enough as the game would go to overtime.

In the overtime Mt. ALoysius would score the first points putting them in the lead by 2. Eric Jackson would put Hilbert in the lead by 2 off of a layup and perfect pass by Quran Briggs. Nevada Eldridge would also hit from deep 2 point range in the overtime while Edward Perez would come down with a huge block. Nevada Eldridge found himself at the free throw line down by 1 point with less than a second to go in overtime and managed to hit on both to give Hilbert the lead. Hilbert would go on to win the game 84-83.
GAME NOTES
Hilbert earned 17 points off of turnovers which helped them vastly in the end while Hilbert's bench also heavily outscored their opponents 25-7. Throughout the whole game HIlbert shot 33 for 72 and also shot 14 for 18 from the free throw line.

Next on the schedule for the Hawks is another AMCC game against Penn State Behrend. They will travel on Wednesday January 18th for the game at 7:00 PM.
