HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College softball team played their inaugural game at the FSSJ Field with a large crowd cheering them on.
The Hawks hosted the Soaring Eagles from Elmira College and suffered a pair of non-conference losses.

GAME ONE
- Emma McNamara's ground out plated Makenna Smith for the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Elmira responded with six runs over the next three innings to take the first game 6-1.
- Bailey Budziszewski doubled in the second inning and Smith set-up her scoring run as the lead-off batter in the fourth. She whacked a triple to right field before being sent home by McNamara.
- Hannah Coken, who earned the Hawks other hit in the game, struck out four, walked four and gave up 12 hits in the seven-inning game.
GAME TWO
- The Hawks took a 2-1 lead by the start of the second inning and were in a 2-2 tie at the top of the sixth. The Soaring Eagles manufactured seven runs which gave them a 9-2 lead by the time the Hawks picked up their bats in the middle of the 6th.
- Smith, who scored Hilbert's solo run in the bottom half, took first base after being hit by the pitch. She advanced off a wild pitch, stole third and made it home off another wild pitch trimming the margin to 9-3.
- Coach Hall cleared the lineup with pinch hitters at the bottom of the 7th and they performed.
- Leandra Cruz singled to center field. Pinch runner Avery Cusack stole second before Abigail Dent dinged a single to the right field. With two outs, and Cusack sitting at third and Dent at second, Morgan Ebert moved Cusack home and Dent to third. Lily Zimmerman (Smith as pinch runner) and McNamara were walked which set the table with bases loaded.
- Victoria Grayson reach on an outfield error and cleared the bags slicing the margin to two runs. But the Hawks stranded Grayson with a third-out ground falling short in their comeback rally.
- Rebecca Marmorato struck out seven, walked six and gave up five of the eight earned runs through 6.1 innings of work.
- Budziszewski went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
UP NEXT
Hilbert returns to action tomorrow, playing their third double header in three days. The Hawks will travel to Penn State Behrend with the new game time of 2pm.
