HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College softball returned to the FSSJ Field for their second double header on campus this season.
The Hawks battled Alfred State College in AMCC action and suffered a series of setbacks, dropped their second set of league games.
Bailey Budziszewski continues to make contact, leading the Hawks with a pair of doubles and
Victoria Grayson knocked in two runs on the day.
Emma McNamara was active at short, keeping the ball in front of her multiple times, throwing runners out at first and limiting runners advancing around the bags.
The Pioneers (8-14, 4-4 AMCC) manufactured five runs in the top of the 6th to take the opening game while the Hawks hung around in the night cap until they gave up six runs in the 4th inning.

GAME ONE
- Alfred State pushed four runs in to start the game and added four more in the second inning. The Hawks scored a run in the bottom of the 1st and 3rd and were trailing 9-2 at the top of the 6th. The Pioneers earned five hits and scored five runs to put the game away after holding the Hawks on defense for the early win.
- Hilbert threw Rebecca Marmorato (3.2 innings, 2K, 8H, 9R), Bailey Budziszewski (1.2 innings, 1K, 1H) and Kaitlyn Barone finished the game in the circle.
- Makenna Smith earned two hits with an RBI, one stolen base and scored one run while Bailey Budziszewski reached for her first double of the day as the lead-off batter in the fourth inning.
- McNamara earned a hit and Victoria Grayson was credited with the other RBI.
GAME TWO
- Hilbert was a different team defensively in the second game. The Hawks silenced the Pioneers and kept them off the scoreboard until the top of the 3rd when they knotted the game at 1-1. Hannah Coken singled to start the second inning and made it to third thanks to Avery Cusack's double. Coken sprinted home beating the tag as A-State attempted to recover from a wild pitch.
- The Pioneers connected for seven hits, scored six runs while leaving two on base in the 4th as they built a 7-1 lead.
- The Hawks responded with one-run inning in each of the next two innings, trimming the difference to 7-3 by the top of the 6th.
- After giving up three more runs through the final two innings, Hilbert needed some action in the bottom of the 7th for a comeback win.
- Smith singled up the middle, McNamara singled to third base and Grayson laid down a perfect bunt which loaded the bases. Alfred State turned a double play to escape with a win.
- Coken tossed her sixth complete game with 22 hits, eight earned runs while striking out three.
- Kaitlyn Barone went 3-for-4 and Budziszewski was terrific at the plate earning two hits.
