HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team hosted their home opener against Penn College at St. Francis High School today.
After suffering a lop-sided loss in 2021, the 2022 Hawks flipped the script this spring and made the United East Conference contest a competitive game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- DiMaria netted a man-up goal just three minutes into the game, but the Wildcats responded 20-seconds later. Bitka and Blount lifted Hilbert into a 3-1 lead and Doyle added another score with 2.5 minutes left in the first quarter which gave Hilbert a 4-2 advantage.
- Penn went on a 3-0 run, scoring a pair in the second sessions' first minute after closing the opening quarter with another hit. Kevin Doyle (Bitka) and Flynn (Blount) hooked-up for two more Hilbert points which gave the Hawks a 6-5 lead at 10:31. But the Wildcats manufactured a 6-1 run before intermission which set the score 11-7 at the break.
- After Flynn and Raymond (Liam Doyle) pulled the Hawks within two (11-9), Penn responded again with three consecutive scores putting the game out of reach (14-9) at the start of the fourth quarter.
- Liam Doyle and Raymond connected for Hilbert's final point at 12:02 in the fourth quarter.
GAME NOTES
- The Hawks were credited with nine assists on their 10 scores.
- Hilbert was very competitive against the Wildcats in shots (43-35), shots on goal (29-23) and finished with fewer turnovers (31-25) than Penn.
- The Wildcats held a 58-35 advantage in ground balls and won 22 of the game's 30 face-offs.
- Both teams finished with a 50% success rate in man-up opportunities.

Hilbert will travel to Buffalo next weekend and compete against Medaille College on April 9 at Color Park with a 12 noon face-off.
