NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Hilbert College softball continued to struggle at the plate today as they dropped back-to-back games in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.

Game 1: Thiel College 10 – Hilbert 0, 5 innings
Game 2: Blackburn College 9 – Hilbert 1, 5 innings
GAME ONE
- Thiel had two big innings at the plate while limiting the Hawks offensively.
- The Tomcats held a 6-run lead after posting five runs in the third inning and finished the day with four additional runs in the top of the 5th.
- The Hawks earned two hits off 17 at bats: Lily Zimmerman with a double in the bottom of the third inning and Avery Cusack earned a single off a bunt in the 5th.
- Rebecca Marmorato (0-2) went 2.1 innings with two strikeouts, four walks and four earned runs off six hits. Kaitlyn Barone made her first appearance in the circle closing the final 2.2 innings with a pair of strike outs, four earned runs off seven hits.
GAME TWO
- The Blackburn Beavers manufactured runs in four of their five innings at the plate, using a big six-run third inning to create enough room for the 9-1 win.
- Emma McNamara gapped Hilbert's solo hit and the Beavers' fielding error off Kailyn Barone's at bat plated Avery Cusack's unearned run in the top of the 5th.
- Hannah Coken saw another four innings of work which resulted in nine hits, two earned runs, four walks and two strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Hawks (0-4) can enjoy a day off from competition Tuesday, but return to the diamonds Wednesday, March 9 to face a pair of Penn State teams. Hilbert will take on Penn State Schuylkill at 1:30 pm and then PS Mont Alto at 3:30pm.
