No. 4 Hawks Host No. 5 Alfred State in First Round Game - Women's Basketball

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference 2022 Women's Basketball Tournament opens this week and the Hilbert women are making their fifth consecutive postseason appearance this year.

Coach Nicole Bullock and her staff have guided the 2021-22 Hawks to a No. 4 seed in the 6-team field vying for the league's automatic bid to the Division III NCAA National Tournament.  

Hilbert (7-9 AMCC) will host No. 5 Alfred State College (7-9) in an AMCC First Round play-off game in the Hafner Recreation Center while No. 3 Pitt-Greensburg (13-3) will host No. 6 Penn State Altoona (6-10) in Greensburg, Pa. February 22nd.

Fans, please remember that, per AMCC policy, all spectators must wear a well-fitted mask which always covers both the nose and mouth during the contest.

La Roche University, as the No. 1 seed, earned the right to host the AMCC Final Four Weekend, February 25th and 26th in Pittsburgh, Pa.  The Redhawks (14-2) join No. 2 Penn State Behrend (14-2) with a first-round bye tomorrow night and head directly to the semifinal games Friday night.

The winner of the Hilbert/Alfred State game (4/5) will battle La Roche February 25th at 6pm in the Kerr Fitness Center.  The winner of the Greensburg/Altoona (3/6) game will square-off against Penn State Behrend in the semifinal nightcap game at 8:30 pm.

The AMCC Champion will be crowned Saturday, February 26th where the two victors from Friday night advance to the 3:00 pm title game.

Game Notes:
  • Hilbert and Alfred State finished the season with identical 7-9 AMCC records.  After all tie-breaker situations were exhausted, the Hawks moved to fourth place above the Pioneers based on each team's strength of schedule.
  • Hilbert is currently riding a two-game win streak while the Pioneers enter tomorrow night's game on a four-game losing skid.
  • Both teams won the head-to-head game on their home court with the Pioneers taking a 65-46 win December 18th in Alfred and the Hawks claimed a 62-51 win in Hamburg.
  • Hilbert picked up big wins at Pitt-Bradford, when the team established two new Single Season records in Rebounds (76) and Offensive Rebounds (31) on Wednesday, and a 10-point win at home against Mount Aloysius.  Hilbert's most recent loss was a seven-point defeat at home to Penn State Altoona nine days ago.
  • Alfred State suffered losses to Pitt-Greensburg, Medaille, La Roche and Penn State Behrend over the final two weeks of the regular season. Their last victory was a six-point win at Penn State Altoona (Feb. 5).
  • Hilbert averages 50.80 points, 15.84 3-point field goal attempts, 16 free throw attempts, 41.5 rebounds, 21.5 TO, 8.52 steals per game.
  • ASC averages 60.5 points, 14.3 3-point field goal attempts, 16.4 free throw attempts, 46.7 rebounds, 17.8 TO, 8.0 steals per game.
  • The Hawks have two players who average double-figure points – Ashely Schroeder leads the AMCC with 18 ppg in league games while Macy Kisner trails right behind with 14.3 ppg. Kisner also leads the AMCC with 11.3 rebounds and also with 2.9 steals per game.  Alesia Hamm is ranked number 8th with 8.6 rebounds per game.
  • The Pioneers have four players reaching double digit scoring, led by My'ana Daivs (13.7) and followed by Maisy Booth (11.6), Skylar Shaulis (11.3) and Emily Kelly (11.1).  Davis is ranked 7th in league with 3.2 apg and 9th in steals/game with 2.1.
