HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Buffalo State Bengals Women's Basketball team travelled today to face off against the Hilbert Hawks in the Hafner Recreation Center. In this close and exciting non-conference battle, your Hawks came out victorious by a score of 61-53.
The Hawks built up a twelve point lead going into halftime and did not look back. They played well both offensively and defensively. The Hawks also celebrated
Macy Kisner tonight in her senior game as she will be graduating this December and played in her final game for Hilbert tonight.
HIGHLIGHTS
Macy Kisner in her final game as a Hawk dominated the paint with 14 total rebounds which was split 7-7 between offensive and defensive. She also led the team in assists with 5 and steals with 4.
Ashley Schroeder led the team in scoring finishing with 32 points only 4 points behind her career best.
Alesia Hamm played the most minutes tonight with 38:45 and in that time she managed to get 6 points and 7 rebounds to help the Hawks to a victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first points of the game would go to the Bengals but this would be the only lead that they would have all night. A quick 5 points by Macy Kisner and Ashley Schroeder would put Hilbert in the lead and they would not lose it the rest of the game.
- In the first quarter Hilbert would also go on their best run of the game which was 8 points. In this run Ashley Schroeder would hit 2 three's to help catapult the Hawks even further in front.
- The Hawks turned over the ball 25 times throughout the game but managed to hold Buffalo State to only 7 points off of the turnovers. In the first half of play they turned the ball over 13 times.
- Blocks by both Ashley Schroeder and Macy Kisner helped keep Hilbert in the lead in the first quarter and going into the second they would be leading by a score of 18-12.
- Alesia Hamm and Belle Oakley both scored quickly inside the paint in the beginning of the second quarter.
- Buffalo State would begin to make the game a little bit closer though as the first half came to a close as they went on their best scoring run of the first half to bring the game within 7 until Chloe Champagne hit a 3 followed up by a couple of free throw makes by Ashley Schroeder.
- In the third quarter Buffalo State began to come back and outscored Hilbert 17-11. A majority of these points were scored at the free throw line by Buff State.
- Hilbert would eventually close out the game in the fourth quarter with strong performances by Macy Kisner and Grace Zabawa who would both pick up steals early in the fourth quarter.
- Hilbert shot well at the free throw line and played great on defense which ultimately allowed them to close out this game and earn their win.
GAME NOTES
- Hilbert earned a large lead in points off of turnovers turning 22 turnovers into 25 points. Hilbert also led the game 24-20 in points in the paint.
- Coach Bullock after the game said "As a staff we are really proud of our effort tonight. It was an emotional game with it being Macy's last game and we handled it really well. We are going into the break feeling good with our progress."

This was the final game of 2022 for the Hawks. Their next game will come after the holiday break. On January 1
st they will travel to Cleveland to take on Case Western Reserve University at 1:00.
