HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released the 2022 Women's Soccer Postseason honors this morning and Grace Zabawa and Chloe Champagne were recognized as All-Conference players.
Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer program swept all major awards the fall. Head Coach Chuck Wigle was named the Coach of the Year, Ashley Lucas was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Year, Lyla Pannebaker grabbed the Defensive Player of the Year award and Megan Hickey took the Newcomer of the Year title.
Hilbert senior Grace Zabawa (Springville, NY/Springville Griffith Institute) became just the fourth women's soccer player to be named to the First Team All-Conference while sophomore Chole Champagne was voted to the Third Team by the eight league coaches.
Zabawa closed her final collegiate season ranked second in the AMCC in Assists and 4th in Points as she led the Hawks with 25 points, fueled by nine goals and seven assists. The 5-6 forward finished 2022 with a team-high 70 shots, 34 on goal and one game-winning goal after playing multiple positions on the field.
Chloe Champagne returned to the pitch after a season ending injury her first year and was a fierce competitor at center mid. She owned her space and was dangerous on and off the ball in the attack. The Chateaugay, NY (Chateaugay) native excelled on counters in attack and breaking them up defensively due to her speed and anticipation. Champagne tallied two goals and one assist in 13 games.
The women's soccer team produced an offensive uptick this season as they broke into the program's Top 5 All-Time Single Season records in multiple categories under first year Head Coach Scott MacLean's leadership. The Hawks finished with a 6-8-3 overall record, the most wins in the program since the 2016 season, and the 2022 team qualified for the post-season tournament as the 5th seed after experiencing a five-year drought.
The 2022 Hawks ranked No. 3 shots on goal (127) and SOG/game (7.47), No. 4 in Points (82) and Points/game (4.82), No. 4 in Goals (32), No. 4 in Goals/game (1.88), Shots (258), shots/game (15.18).
