Hawks Fall to Altoona at Home

Hilbert's men's soccer team took on Penn State Altoona at home today on a chilly Saturday afternoon. The men's soccer team lost by a score of 3-2 in an extremely close game from start to finish. Neither side would let up until the final whistle blew.
 
THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Hilbert 2  |  Penn State Altoona 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half of the game was a chess match between the two with no side being able to gain an edge until the 34th minute when Penn State would take the lead.
  • The rest of the first half would be a stalemate and neither side could push through.
  • To open up the second half the Lions would break through again and score on a header to make it a 2 goal game.
  • Ryan Michelsen would eventually answer back by slotting home a goal with his left foot on a cross from Hector Harris.
  • Only 4 minutes later the Lions would regain a 2 goal lead.
  • The Hawks were not done though with Carter Burke putting a beautiful cross into the box to Jason Vullo who would eventually score with his right foot to bring the Hawks within one.
  • Eventually the final whistle blew and the game ended 3-2 to the Lions.
GAME NOTES
  • The Hawks were outshot today by a margin of 10-7 but managed to hold the Lions to only three corners the same amount as them.
  • The Hawks used a total of 16 people today in the loss.
  • Carter Burke and Jason Vullo led the Hawks in shots on goal with 2 apiece.
UP NEXT
Next on the schedule for the Hawks is another AMCC matchup with the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. The game will be played at home on Hawk Field.
