Men's Soccer Earns First AMCC Victory After 3-2 Battle With Bradford

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Men's Soccer team trailed early in the first minute of the game but battled the final 89 minutes to take a 3-2 AMCC win over Pitt-Bradford.

Today's victory turned into the first AMCC win the men's soccer team earned in seven seasons.

Prior to the start of the game, the Men's Soccer team honored their three seniors and families in a pre-game ceremony on Senior Day.

THE BASICS
  • Final   Score:  Hilbert 3 I  Pitt-Bradford 2
  • Location: Hawks Varsity  I Hamburg, NY
  • Records:  Hawks 4-6-2, 1-2 AMCC  I  Pitt-Bradford 2-10, 1-2 AMCC
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Pitt-Bradford got on the board in the first 30-seconds of play after a loud collision distracted and drew the attention of most players in the box.  The Panthers pushed the ball into an open net after Hilbert's keeper got caught up in the contact.
  • Then, less than 60-seconds later, Carter Burke notched his eighth goal of his career connecting on the rebound-save by the Panther goalie which was made off Carter's own PK kick.
  • At 9:52,  the Hawks earned a free kick.  Burke sent the ball to Hector Harris who laid it off to Jason Vullo, and the rookie forward connected with his left foot sending the ball to the bottom right.  That 2-1 score held for the next 35 minutes till intermission.
  • Vullo headed in his second goal of the game (8th of the season) at 63:34 giving Hilbert a two-goal cushion but that lead didn't last long because Bradford scored their second goal four minutes later and sliced the margin to back to a one-goal difference.
  • Both teams picked up their intensity as the seconds clicked off the game clock but the Hawks prevailed with their first league victory.

GAME NOTES

  • Both teams were even in shots, though Hilbert held the edge in on goal (6-2).   Bradford earned seven corners vs. Hilbert's five but the Hawks came up with the big W.
  • Jason Vullo earned his second multi-goal game today and Logan Peck finished the 90 minute contest without a save credited to his stat-sheet, though he played tough in the box and broke up multiple attacks.
