WEST SENECA, N.Y. - The Hilbert College Hawks hockey team opened the season with an exhibition match against the University at Buffalo Bulls ACHA program. Practices for the Hawks began on Monday and the team was required to pick up the coaching philosophy very quickly while forming locker room chemistry as well.Â
1st Period - The Hawks scored just 41 seconds into the game as Kayla Myers clapped one home from a Kirsten Kyte pass. Three minutes later the Bulls tied the game up 1-1. Shots: UB 8 Hilbert 11
2nd Period - The Hawks again scored early in the period and again it was Kayla Myers this time assisted by Courtney Wesolowski and Mia Bouchard. A late short-handed goal for the Bulls tied the game at 2. Shots: UB 6 Hilbert 12
3 Period & OT - Neither team found the net and the Hawks out shot the Bulls 15-5 in the final 25 minutes.Â
Cassie Troy made 12 saves on 14 shots during her 40 minutes of play and Tia Card played the final 25 minutes making 5 saves.Â
Strong play all around from the new program has the coaching staff pleased with the result. "We played well in the neutral zone and applied constant pressure in the offensive zone. It was great to see the team take the training from the past few days and apply it directly to their first game" said Head Coach Cole Klubek.Â
