KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Women's Volleyball team went 1-1 this afternoon in a tri-match series hosted by Keuka College.
The Hawks closed the day with their second consecutive 5-set victory this season over SUNY Poly after opening the day dropping a 3-set loss to the hosts.

HOW IT HAPPENED - KEUKA
- Hilbert earned 29 points, 26 kills, three service aces, and 38 digs, and they had a tough time on serve receive as they gave Keuka ten points after just one touch.
- Michaela Rice led with seven kills (2 errors | .313), Angelita Ladesma was credited with 1/3 of the team's digs total digs after earning her first double digit performance (12). Jenna Helbig added seven digs and finished with 10 assists.
- Jenna Revak (2) and Katie Kocsizewski combined for three of Hilbert's first six points. Trailing 6-8, the Hawks quickly fell into an 7-18 hole and were unable to dig themselves out of it before falling in the 25-8 first set.
- Five different Hawks finished with a point at the net which kept the Hawks on pace (6-7) with the Wolves in the second set. The hosts used a combination of service aces, kills and Hilbert passing miscues to sprint back to a 25-15 win.
- The Hawks came alive in the third set and played point for point with Keuka. Hilbert forced seven matching scores with the Wolves, their last at 14-14. But the Hawks continued to battle and three times pulled back within one point. The Wolves, leading 23-22, put the game away with consecutive kills for the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED - SUNY POLY
- Both teams earned 63 points in the five-set match. The Hawks collected 40 kills, six blocks and 66 digs. Hilbert plastered the Wildcats for 17 points from the service line, just two more than Poly hit-up the Hawks.
- Michaela Rice led the Hawks again at the net colleting 10 kills with only one hitting error (.500) and one solo block. She added nine digs, brought the Hawks back with five service aces while three of her teammates were credited with double figure digs: Jenna Helbig led with 16 digs, led with seven service aces, made one solo block and dished 15 of the team's 32 assists. Angelita Ledesma went 2-for-2 today in digs, adding 12 more to her daily total and Jenna Evak came through with 10 digs and five kills. Katie Kociszewski (3) and McKenna Rice (2) were a dynamic due in block assists.
- The entire match was a game of runs with momentum shifts in each set and service runs.
- Hilbert fell behind in the very early part of the opening set, rallied for a lead (6-5 and 9-8) before going up 16-13. SUNY Poly jumped on top 18-17 but Alyssa Collier served them to a 25-18 win, picking up a pair of aces in that eight-point run.
- Trailing by two, (6-8), Hilbert suffered through a seven-point Wildcat run and found themselves down 15-6. The Hawks sliced the difference to three again (15-18) but then didn't finish on attack giving the Wildcats the 25-21 win.
- Hilbert opened the third set with a lead and never relinquished it. After building a 13-10 advantage, the Hawks went up 17-0 and 23-12 before holding on for the 25-21 win.
- The fourth set was the most evenly play set yet. Neither team held the lead very long as the runs happened late in the set. The Hawks, down 10-11 were suddenly trailing by 11-14. Michaela Rice lifted Hilbert 19-15, earning three service aces in that 7-point run. Hilbert continued to lead, 23-20, but Poly went on a six-point run for the 26-24 win.
- The score was knotted each of the seven numbers, until Hilbert earned four consecutive points to create enough separation for the 15-12 win.

The Hawks turn around and travel to SUNY Fredonia October 4 with a 6:00 pm game in Dods Hall. They will open their portion of the AMCC schedule next Saturday, October 8th with a game at Penn State Altoona.
