HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
- The Hawks made it a 1-1 game through the top of the 4th. Behrend slowly pulled away by tacking on runs in the bottom half of the 4th, 5th and 6th innings.
- Mattison Arnett limited the Lions to one hit in the first inning, but that double turned into a run scored after a stolen base and ensuing throwing error allowed their runner to tap home plate.
- Hilbert's bats came alive in the 3rd with back-to-back singles. Makenna Smith singled to center field and advanced to third off Melanie Basile's single down the right field line. Smith sprinted home when Basile stole second which knotted the game at 1-1.
- Behrend built a 4-1 advantage by converting two hits into three runs in the 4th and turned away three Hilbert batters in the 5th.
- Arnett held the Lions in check in the 5th, but a quick triple tacked a solo run and broke the game open with a 5-1 score.
- The Lions silenced Hilberts bats in the 6th and 7th innings, yet turned four hits into two runs for the final 7-1 score.
- Victoria Grayson poked a double in the opening inning earning the third Hilbert hit.
- Arnett (0-3), who tossed another complete game, faced 31 batters, gave up 12 hits, five earned runs with no walks while striking out one.
GAME 2:
- Hilbert again kept it a close game through three innings. Behrend exploded with eight runs off seven hits in the 4th and set an 11-0 lead by the top of the 5th.
- The Hawks responded with three runs thanks to Basile's 3 RBI double in the top of the 5th.
- Hannah Coken walked and moved to third behind Sydnea Schiedel's double in the 5th. Smith's walk loaded the bases feeding Basile for a 3-run double. Grayson singled right after, setting the talble with two more runs on the bags but the game ended with HIlbert's next batter.
- Basile went 2 for 3 while Schiedel matched Basile with the other doubles during the night cap.
- Bailey Budziszewski (0-3) gave up six earned runs through 3.1 inning pitched.
