BRADFORD, Pa. - The Hawks softball team survived a 379-day delay in competition when they stepped on the diamond over one month ago at D'Youville. Unbeknownst to them, they had to wait another 34 days before they faced their first double header in April, 2021.
The 0-2 Hawks came out swinging at Pitt-Bradford but the Panthers, who brought a 10-4 record into the game, were way ahead of the royal and white and put both games away.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Melanie Basile earned three hits while Bailey Budziszewski knocked in both runs today.
- The Hawks manufactured 11 hits off the Panthers who have been rolling over AMCC opponents.
- Makenna Smith, and Mattison Arnett each poked a double in the opening game and Budziszewski earned her double bagger against Jordan Uhing who just collected her third career no-hitter this week.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
- Bradford got on the board early with 2-run homer in the bottom of the 1st. They padded five more runs in the second and finished the scoring in the 3rd inning.
- Arnett and McNamara were stranded in scoring position in the second inning but the Hawks responded in the third.
- Smith doubled and Basile moved her to third off a single to center field. Budziszewski's fielders choice RBI scored Smith but forced the team's second out. Victoria Grayson's hit put a pair on the pads before the third out to end the inning with Hilbert trailing 7-1.
- The Panthers' RBI triple along with a stolen home run finished the scoring for the hosts.
- The Hawks went three up-three down in the 4th inning and earned a solo hit in the 5th which led the the 9-1 defeat.
- Smith and Emma McNamara each notched a stolen base and Arnett dropped to 0-2 on the season. She struck out two, walked two with six earned runs in three innings pitched.
GAME 2:
- Bradford built a 5-0 advantage before the Hawks tacked a run on the board in the top of the 4th. Hilbert held the Panthers in the bottom half of that inning but gave up three more runs in the 5th and 6th for their second defeat of the day, falling 8-1.
- Uhing held the full batting order through the first three innings.
- Basile singled back to pitcher in the 4th and moved to second after Grayson's fielder's choice led to a throwing error by Uhing. Budziszewski's timely double knocked in Basile which put Hilbert on the scoreboard.
- The Hawks held Bradford in check in the bottom half, but then couldn't connect in the 5th.
- The Panthers stretched their lead by one run in the 5th (6-1) and faced only three Hilbert batters in the 6th.
- Budziszewski singled, followed by Arnetts hit. Both base runners advanced off McNamara's sac bunt but were stranded with the final out of the game in the 7th.
- Budziszewski went 2 for 3 at the plate and tossed four innings with three walks and three earned runs in defeat.
