HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Alfred State took a 2-0 lead off the tip and had to play catch-up from there.  The Hawks scored back-to-back buckets and maintained control until the Pioneers went ahead 9-8 at 16:27.
  • Hilbert regained the lead and battled through two additional times where the Pioneers knotted the score.
  • The game opened-up around the 12-minute mark after Gashi, Zach Miller and Quran Briggs netted three 3-pointers creating a 9-point spread. Elijah Powell's jumper in the lane made space for the double digit difference which was extended to a 20-point margin with more than five minutes left in the opening period.
  • The Pioneers sliced into the lead and pulled within 13 points (42-29) yet the Hawks continued to pour in points and extended their lead back to 19-points by the break.
  • Twice, early in the second half, Hilbert built a 25-point lead and held onto a 20-point advantage until 13:25.  Alfred State put together an 11-1 run and pulled within 12 (65-53) before Ellis' seven-point run stopped the Pioneers momentum.
  • Alfred State got as close as 13 again (8:17 0 76-63) but they had no answer for Hilbert's efficiency on offense.
  • Ellis connected on 6-of-8 field goal attempts, hit both three-pointers lighting up the hosts for 17-second half points.
