Hawks Slip to the Mounties in Volleyball

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hawks from Hilbert played three competitive volleyball games against Mount Aloysius College this afternoon.  Set scores were tight and long rallies carried the action through three sets.  The Mounties earned their first AMCC win of the season as the Hawks continue to work towards their first victory this fall.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Mount Aloysius  25, 25, 25   I  Hilbert  17, 17, 11
  • Location:  Hafner Recreation Center, Hamburg, NY
  • Records:   The Mounties  2-11, 1-1 AMCC  I  Hilbert 0-11, 0-4 AMCC
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hilbert opening the first game with a ton of confidence.  They built a 3-0 lead fueled by back-to-back Ashley Page service aces before Katie Kociszewski earned the game's first kill.  Abigail Elisofon and Maria Spinelli sandwiched a pair of kills around a block assist by Spinelli and Elisofon to take a 7-2 lead.
  • After gaining a 9-5 advantage, the Hawks weren't able to hold-off the Mountie charge.
  • Trailing 13-10, Hilbert rallied and forced a 13-all score and stayed within three points.  Mount Aloysius rode a 19-17 score into the set win, 25-17.
  • The second set mirrored the first, with both teams trading points but Hilbert never led in the set.  The Hawks knotted the game at 4-4, and twice trailed by two points, but they were never able to slice into the momentum late in the set and fell, 25-17.
  • The Hawks went up 5-1 earning their only point off a block assist. Mt. Aloysius took a 6-5 lead and forced a Hilbert timeout.  Ashley Page's kill flipped the score to 15-11, with Hilbert fighting back into the set.  Five quick Hilbert attack errors or passing miscues pushed the Mounties into action and they served 10 straight points for the match victory.
