Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Hawks offense put up 30 runs in Monday's doubleheader against St. Elizabeth to sweep the Eagles by scores of 12-8 in game one and 18-10 in game two.
GAME ONE
Hilbert went up in the top of the first after a
Brandon Job 2 RBI single plated
Austin O'Shei and
Jonathan Wilson to go up 2-0 early. St. Elizabeth answered back in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs after the Hawks committed a pair of errors to take a 6-2 lead.
The Hawks took over from there as starter
Zachary Crane blanked the Eagles over the next five innings while the Hilbert offense scored 10 unanswered runs to take a commanding 12-6 lead after six innings and cruise to a 12-8 victory.
Zachary Crane picked up his first win of the season after tossing six innings without allowing a single earned run and added nine strikeouts. At the conclusion of the fourth inning, Crane became the 8
th Hawk to ever reach the 100 career inning milestone.
Joseph McNabb came on in the seventh to secure the win.
Freshman
Angelo DiNizo hit his first career home run in the top of the third inning and finished the game going 2 for 5 with a home run and added a pair of RBI and runs scored, while also stealing a base. Sophomore
James DiSanti led the offense going 3 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI and also added a stolen base.
GAME TWO
The Hilbert offense continued their hot start to the 2020 campaign in game two of the doubleheader against St. Elizabeth, scoring 16 runs in the first three innings to cruise to another win.
The Hawks put up five in the first inning after a
Jonathan Wilson RBI double, followed by a
Matt Kellner opposite field grand slam. They added two more in the second off a
Griffith DeMayo RBI double and
Jonathan Wilson RBI single put the Hawks up 7-6.
Hilbert's offense exploded in the third inning, scoring nine runs on eight hits and one error. Seven Hawks recorded hits in the inning and
James DiSanti recorded two hits in the inning, including a single and RBI double.
Austin O'Shei added a triple, and
Griffith DeMayo and
Matt Kellner added doubles of their own to lift the Hawks to a 16-6 lead after three. From there, the royal and white cruised to an 18-10 win.
A trio of Hawks finished with three hits, including
Austin O'Shei,
Griffith DeMayo and
James DiSanti, while
Matt Kellner added a pair of hits including a grand slam home run.
Senior
Noah Welch picked up the win on the mound after tossing 3.1 innings in relief of starter
Jordan Brown. Welch only allowed one hit while striking out five to shut down the Eagles offense.
Anthony DiNizo closed out the game going 1.2 innings on the mound without allowing an earned run.
Hilbert (2-2) is back at it tomorrow as they take on John Jay in an afternoon doubleheader beginning at 3:30pm.
