HOW IT HAPPENED
- There was a lot of back and forth play throughout the entirety of the first quarter as the score stayed within a single possession from the opening tip until the horn sound with the Hawks up 15-13.
- During the early going, Hilbert looked to their freshman tandem of Ashley Schroeder and Macy Kisner to fuel the offense, as the freshman duo combined to score the first 10 points of the game for the royal and white.
- Then with the Hawks down 12-10, senior Ashley Repine took it strong to the basket while being fouled to earn a three point play to take back the lead from the host Mavericks.
- Medaille opened the second quarter scoring with a Morgan Kennedy three pointer, before Hilbert went on a 6-0 run capped by a pair of Emily Gawlak jumpers to give the Hawks a 21-16 lead with 5:59 remaining in the opening half.
- The Mavericks looked once again to Morgan Kennedy to fuel the offense as Kennedy connected on a pair of layups, after assisting on a Katherine Willett three pointer to help the Mavs climb within a bucket of the visiting Hawks.
- Hilbert senior Demi Battin answered by connecting on a jumper with 2:52 left in the opening half, but Medaille scored five unanswered points to take a 28-27 lead into the break.
- The Hawks came out of the intermission looking to feed their seniors on the offensive end. Emily Gawlak hit a jumper to open up the scoring in the second half and Ashley Repine followed with a layup to give the Hawks a 31-28 lead with 8:13 remaining in the third quarter.
- Medaille answered back with seven unanswered points, capped by a Morgan Kennedy layup to go up 35-31.
- Hilbert answered with a pair of layups by Ashley Schroeder and Emma Fredo to tie it back up at 35 with just over five minutes left in the third.
- Morgan Kennedy continued her strong play by scoring the next five points for either team, putting the Mavs up five, but Demi Battin took back the momentum with a big three pointer to spark a 9-0 run late in the third to propel the Hawks into the fourth quarter with a 47-42 lead.
- Hilbert stretched the lead to eight after an Ashley Schroeder three pointer made it 52-44 with 8:12 left in the game, but Medaille answered with a pair of threes to keep it within a single possession with roughly seven minutes to go.
- Both teams continued their back and forth play over the next couple of minutes, resulting in a 57-54 Hilbert lead with four minutes remaining in the contest.
- The Hawks proved to be too much for the Mavericks to handle down the stretch as they went on a monster 16-2 run over the final 3:26 to score a lopsided 73-56 Buffalo Cup victory.
- Ashley Schroeder led the Hawks with 17 points, while Macy Kisner finished with a team-high in rebounds (9), assists (5) and steals (3).
- Morgan Kennedy was a force for the Mavericks as she finished with a game-high 30 points and 11 rebounds.
